Background And Settings For Gossip!

The school setting reassures the audience that the film is based on teenagers, the target audience should be able to relate to the characters as they are in the same age range from 13-18 years old. Any viewer under 13 may not understand the content of the film and anyone over 18 will probably lose interest as it includes stereotypical teenage behaviour. Some of what the characters do or say may be humorous because of how it is what people expect from teenage girls.

Showing the girls in each of their houses getting ready and being quite relaxed is another thing that the target audience can relate to as they most likely have gone through the same process for a party. Each setting for the scenes where the main girls are getting ready shows the little details someone would expect for a teen angst sequence. For example, the close up of the make up brushes show how many brushes one teenage girl owns which is a typical representation of girls in general.

When each character is walking through the estate it shows how independent they are because they are both alone and they have faith in themselves to know where to go. This is also a stereotypical representation of how all teenagers want freedom. As the backgrounds are empty it shows the audience how the space around the girls could be threat space but they are not bothered by it because they are comfortable in a place they know well.
